Europeans

today, during lunch, we were talking about tomatoes.  how they are a new world food, completely unknown to the colonizers, and were taken as poisonous for many years before they became a fairly staple food internationally.

EB used the word 'europeans', which was unfamiliar to LJT.  i said, 'europeans are white people, or were, or whatever'.  'white people aren't european', countered EB.  which got us a little confused, and we tried to sort out that branch of the conversation.

LJT, getting bored with it all said, 'my beans are blue.'  which got a few blinks and uncomprehending stares from EB and i.  'your beans are white' said LJT, 'but my beans are blue'.

say it out loud.

Bedtime story

Tonight i was too tired to read to LJT from a book, so i lay down with him to try to think up a story.  This has been done so many times that tonight i was a little tired of that too.  So while i went through my collection of fairy tales and the like gathered over my life i asked LJT to tell me a story.

"Once upon a time there was a bug.  A big big big big bug.  And it walked over to a bicycle that had a car in it.  And it squeezed, squeezed, squeezed it but the bike wouldn't come out, so he stopped."

I realized that my collection of fables has a horrible selection.  Every story is either man saves woman, or woman marries man, or the like.  ugh.  something must be done.
